COCHINEAL DRAWING
The prized colorant from ancient Mexico with an extraordinary history, cochineal produces a rich saturated scarlet. Here it’s been distilled as a drawing ink in Oaxaca, MX and used with rich blacks of India ink against white watercolor paper for a series of organic drawings that I continue to develop. Several incorporate handmade paper from Taller de Arte Papel, famed paper-making center established by artist Francisco Toledo.
